Hymns 40

1. O virtuous king! Rules us according to vedic prescriptions.

2. O king! I accept you as my king for my prosperity and safety.

3. O king! I advise you to keep water sources pure.

4. O learned person! You are equipped with many qualities to guide us for our prosperity. I accept your directions.

5. O commander you are the means through which king wins war.

6. Longevity lies in respiration and healing medicine. Grow them. Develop them.

7. The learned have to be swift and alert to guide others.

8. O well equipped king! May all the scientists, engineers help you in the administration.

9. O king! The swiftness of falcon may be established in you.

10. I should enjoy safety and prosperity due to the actions of learned people, military commanders and king.

11. O preacher! Acquire knowledge by interacting with sages. O king! Learn from the sages statecraft.

12. O guardians of justice, be free in speech and dispense justice.

13. O learned persons and military men, identify the enemies from a distance and check their onward march.

14. the commander of the army should be able to march the army with the required speed.

15. Only the army that marches according to plan on proper routes can win battles.

16. Only expert army men, well fed and well respected, united in their approach can defeat strong thieves or enemies.

17. The state officials have to learn more by participating in various discussions of learned people.

18. O truthful government officials! Protect us in various quarrels that take place in towns and villages.

19. May I obtain the affection of mother and father.

20. For the king knowledge of all affairs of the society is essential.

21. Eyes thrive by the looking at naturally beautiful objects. Ears thrive by listening to Vedas. Questioning abilities thrive by discussions. Worship of god thrives by concentration (Brahmacharya must be interpreted as focus on single duty.)

22. O producers of thing from earth! Produce food grains and useful items from earth. Always respect earth.

23. May all medicines be properly prepared and medicinal plants taken care of properly in our kingdom.

24. The king should collect taxes from unwilling persons and also use to money for improving the state.

25. The king has to tour throughout the territory and takes required actions to maintain prosperity.

26. The king should be knowledgeable to rule the state.

27. King has to encourage all professionals to do noble deeds.

28. O king! Speak truthfully and kindly to us and grant us happiness.

29. Let the mother impart knowledge to her children with a sweet tongue.

30. I appoint you as king. You have strong and swift hands to take the required actions.

31. You can use vedic verses withone, two, three or four letter syllabic metres.

32. You can use vedic verses with five, six, seven and eight syllabic metres.

33. You can use vedic verses with nine, ten, eleven and twelve syllabic metres.

34. You can sue vedic verses with thirteen, fourtee, fifteen, sixteen and seventeen syllabic metres.

35. O king conduct your rule with justice and kindness.

36. O king recognize all experts from various professions.

37. O king! Advance knowledge in this state.

38. O king! We also participate along with you in battles.

39. O king! You are also useful to householder like fire.

40. O learned people, here is the king of you, king of kshatriyas, king of brahmanas, and king of all people. You help him in subduing foes.
